AN IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE WEBMASTER The following message was received from long-time Remudaro and DC Board Member John (Doc) Hillegas who discusses the recent decision of the DC Board to change the ride from our traditional Camp-to-Camp format to a Base/Permanent Camp format beginning in 2007. John notes that the Board’s vote was extremely close and that Remuda Directors voted in accordance with the results of the “straw poll” taken at our Thursday evening Camp Meeting during April’s ride to retain the present ride format. Given the importance of this issue, camp members should check this website regularly for updated information. Meanwhile, if you have an opinion, comment or suggestion to share please forward it to webmaster@remudacamp.org We need to work any issues we have through our Remuda Camp DC Directors. I will ensure that all feedback is delivered to the directors and our Camp Boss who is working this issue with your Remuda Camp Directors. ==================Letter from Doc Hillegas===============================
Hi Mike,
The DC Board of Directors met on October 13, '05, and
by a 11-10 vote, the Board has chosen to change the ride to a Base/Permanent
Camp type ride, starting Apr. 2007! I am extremely disappointed by this
vote, but am happy to report that the Remuda directors voted the Remuda
Camp's choice of Point-to-Point ride.
Because of the divisiveness that has grown out of
this debate, the Board felt that a determining vote now was necessary,
rather than drag this issue out further. I should also point out that the
Board voted by essentially the same margin to not reveal the results of the
recent "informal poll", and there are still a majority of Board
members that feel that the ride membership shall have no voice in
determining the structure of the ride. "We do the work, we make the
decisions".. No member meetings, polls, etc. 4 of the present 5 Board
members from the Los Cab camp voted for Base camp rides, in spite of
overwhelming, and extremely vocal, Los Cab members' desire to continue
point-to-point ride.
In most societies, history has shown that strong
majorities often discover a way to reflect their will. Time will tell, as
the active membership of 125 riders, plus amigos and nuevos, digest the
result of this epic change.
Anyone with a strong opinion regarding this change is
encouraged to write a letter (no emails) to El Presidente of Desert
Caballeros. All correspondence received from members/riders, etc., is
read and reviewed at the monthly Board meeting. Please feel free to
broadcast this news to our Remuda riders via our website.
Cheers,
Doc/Jon
