Tom Hamill killed this Mountain Lion in
1993. He had found a fresh killed calf, and set his dogs on the
track. In about a mile the dogs cornered the lion in boulder pile --
granite -- the lion took refuge in a 25 foot deep hole (crevice.) Tom
shimmied down to the same height as the mountain lion and he then pointed
his pistol (Colt 45) around the corner of a rock and over one of the dogs
and shot the lion in the chest with a single round.
Mountain
lions are a major threat to the rancher's herds in the Arizona Desert..
This Mountain Lion weighted ~220 pounds and was 8 feet 2 inches from
nose to tail.
Tommy Hamill is a rancher on Cooper Ranch, a cattle ranch
that is approximately 27,000 acres.
