Description/directions |
| Browns County State Park, Browns County, IN |
Browns County State Park has over 200 horsemen's
sites. The sites are suitable for campers and tents, and easily accommodate
4 horses per site. The facility has over 50 miles of well marked
trails, from easy riding to moderately challenging. There are water
hydrants throughout the camp ground for watering horses, and multiple
restrooms and hot water showers for riders. It is best to reserve
sites in advance.
Nashville Indiana is a nearby town you shouldn't miss if you go to
Brown County State Park. It is a beautiful city, with quaint shops,
delicious food, and a very friendly atmosphere.

| Mount Rushmore KOA, Mount Rushmore, SD |
Mount Rushmore has beautiful and challenging trails.
Horses are available at the KOA, about 3 or so miles from Mount
Rushmore. If you bring your own horse, the KOA rents gate stalls for
the horses. In addition to camping sites, there are furnished cabins
available.
If you are up to it, the ride to the top of Harney Peak (7000+ feet)
from the KOA (already at 5000 feet) is a day you will remember. If
you are bringing your own horse, an easy-boot is recommended in case your
horse throws a shoe. (As you would guess, this is a very rockly area, and
the easy boot can make the difference between riding your horse out, and
walking it out.) There are very interesting casino's in some of the
surrounding area towns with friendly people, great stories, and great
food. Don't miss these.

| Shawnee National Forest, Southern Illinois |
Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois has beautiful
trails, and there are both public campgrounds in the area and outfitters
that will provide for all your needs.
The trails in this forest are not marked, nor is there a map
available. We had to stay with a guide for all trail rides.
